Rafael Doctor, guest curator of La noche en blanco

Better known as the recently appointed director of the MUSAC in León, Rafa Doctor has an extensive career under his belt that includes around 30 exhibitions curated for the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, including the exhibition Apricots along the Street (2001) featuring the artistPipilotti Rist, and his oversight of the cultural programming at the Casa de América in 2002.

In recent years, he has published in the most prominent national contemporary art media, written dozens of catalogues and served on the juries of the most important art awards such as the National Photography Prize and the Community of Madrid culture prizes. He has also taught courses and delivered lectures at the most important artistic and cultural institutions in Spain, and is on the advisory board of several contemporary art publications.

Currently, he is an independent curator and has a variety of projects underway includingLa noche en blanco in Madrid (September 2009) along with several exhibitions featuring such diverse artists as Pierre Gonnord, Jorge Galindo and Gervasio Sánchez.

In addition to all of this, he has also found the time to publish his first novel, Masticar los tallos de las flores regaladas (Edit. Almuzara) and prepare the publication of two novels, a book of poetry and a book of his own short stories. He lives between Madrid, Calzada de Calatrava (Ciudad Real) and Níjar (Almería).

In June 2002, he won the Civil Merit Medal for his contribution to disseminating Spanish culture.
