On a Noche en blanco which this year focuses on the value of cultural customs and the timeless practice of gift-giving, we want to steep this event in the Sahrawi magic of the gift. A society like that of the Sahrawi people, where money is scarce and the economy is driven by the solidarity and reciprocity of giving, reminds us that the act of giving should be an everyday reality, not just in Sahrawi refugee camps but in every society.
As Serge Latouche explains in en The Other Africa, the act of giving "exists even at the heart of global society and crisscrosses the market society. (…) It is a historical phenomenon of creative and innovative social reaction to the failure of development. (…) In fact, the absolute market does not exist, given that the foundations of social exchange cannot be based on the law of supply and demand.”

The event revolving around the Sahrawi gift is presented in three enormous tents that hold an exhibition and will host a series of activities throughout the night. Some of the proposals are festive and others more reflexive. All of them will feature great Sahrawi musicians, poets and painters. The night will end with a huge jam session involving Spanish, Cuban and Sahrawi performers.

The participating artists, among others, are Eva María Espejo, Berta Luna Orellana and Eugenio Heredia, Antonio Gómez, María Ortega Estepa, Guillermo Roiz and Fernando Rubio Ahumada.
